What is Facial Renewal Acupuncture?

Facial Renewal Acupuncture is strongly based on the principles of Chinese Medicine and involves insertion of hair-thin needles in specific areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk and legs along energy meridians called Qi (Chee). Points are selected according to an individual’s needs. Many of these meridians begin or end on the face; thus, a practitioner can treat the face and also treat the underlying factors that are contributing to one’s aging process in general.

A two-hour treatment, Facial Renewal Acupuncture involves the insertion of delicate thin filiform needles into the face and body along meridians on acupoints, as well as into surface problems on the face, with a 20 minute retention followed by a light massage. Chinese herbal pill formulas, nutritional and lifestyle consultation are often recommended to enhance results.

As a safe alternative to cosmetic surgery with no traumatic side effects, there is no "down time". The patient leaves the treatment feeling relaxed. It works on the skin surface and deeper tissue, building collagen, toning muscles, improving circulation and moistening skin without the possible side effects of skin pigmentation loss, scars, infection, rashes, or toxic buildup of chemicals. The whole person is taken into consideration, not just their face. Treatments are designed for the individual with herbal support.

As early as the Sung Dynasty (960 AD - 1270 AD), facial acupuncture practices were employed for the Empress and the Emperor’s concubines.

What is Qi?

Qi (chee) is the life-force energy in our body that we are both born with and maintain throughout life. Qi has been referred to in classic texts as the energy that is on the verge of becoming matter. There are several different qualities of Qi; working with correct Chinese diagnosis of signs and symptoms directs the practitioner to specific meridians and point combinations to treat a problem. Along with blood and body fluids, Qi is considered major component to maintaining health.

What Are the Effects?

A series of treatments may erase as many as five to ten years from the face, with noticeable changes after only a few treatments. Many fine lines may be entirely eliminated and deeper wrinkles softened, droopy eyelids lifted and double chins minimized. Increased local circulation of blood and lymph brings moisture to the skin, increases collagen production, muscle tone and dermal contraction. This tightens pores, brightens the eyes and improves hormonal balance to help acne and reduce signs of stress in the face. (See pictures)

How Does It Work?

Facial Renewal Acupuncture has been shown to locally increase collagen production. It also helps to remove old tissue so as to firm skin texture and significantly soften deep wrinkles. As a result, increased collagen in the areas affected cause a change or increase in muscle tone and connective tissue, resulting in increased hydration to the skin.

With proper application, puffy eyes and sagging areas around the face and neck can be significantly reduced and toned up. The skin is moisturized naturally. This happens through a series of treatments building new collagen and moving out old “debris” naturally, while also addressing the whole person’s constitution. One may notice changes after the first treatment, however the effects become stabilized and more pronounced after the seventh treatment, although everyone responds differently depending upon one’s health condition and lifestyle..

Is Facial Renewal Acupuncture for Everyone?

Facial Renewal Acupuncture is not recommended for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, migraines, or individuals who have a pacemaker or a serious problem with bleeding or bruising. This treatment should not be done during pregnancy, and should be suspended during acute colds or the flu, an allergic attack, or acute herpes outbreak.

Why Choose Facial Renewal over a Surgical Face-lift?

While Facial Renewal Acupuncture is not a replacement for surgery, it is an excellent alternative. It is far less costly and traumatic to the patient than cosmetic surgery and has no side effects or risk of disfigurement. What Does a Treatment Feel Like?

The initial visit consists of a consultation evaluating the patient’s needs and an in-depth review of your health history.

Next we do a Traditional Chinese Medical intake for evaluation of your overall health and constitution, followed by the treatment, starting with micro-facial cupping to remove excess stagnation and fluids from the face. Then Facial Renewal acupuncture is applied in a relaxing environment. You relax for 20 minutes with soft music and a quiet atmosphere. After removing needles, we apply an aromatherapy facial compress for 5-10 minutes using a formula that matches your skin type. While this is in place, light Tui-Na foot massage brings your energy back into balance. A neck, scalp massage also release stress and tension from your busy life. Nutritional counseling, self-facial massage instruction and herbal recommendations, as well as general guidance on skin care, are provided as desired.

Treatments take 2 1/2 hours for the initial treatment and 2 hours for follow-up treatments. It is usually recommended to do a series of 12 treatments depending on the person’s personal goals.
